Lovejoy Scores Career-High as Scots Bow Out of NCAC Tourney

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The College of Wooster women's basketball team was knocked out in the quarterfinal of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday, falling to top-seeded DePauw University 82-47.

The Scots faced the difficult task of traveling back to DePauw after playing them just three days ago to conclude the regular season in an 83-41 loss. While the result was better, unfortunately just like in that game, they fell behind early in the second quarter and could never recover.

Wooster held a 7-4 lead just three minutes into the game. Sophomore Erica Beaty gave Wooster its first score with a 3-pointer, while Ella Biondi and Anna Hardink each contributed the next four points.

Yet, after another three minutes of play, Wooster trailed 15-11. From there, DePauw embarked on a 18-1 run, which was interrupted thanks to a 3-pointer by Alexis Lovejoy with 4:38 left in the second quarter.

At halftime, the Scots trailed 38-17.

Wooster almost matched the Tigers in the third quarter, ultimately falling 23-20. Lovejoy found her shot, going 4-of-4 from range for 12 points.

Lovejoy led the Scots with 15 points off the bench, which was a new career-high for the first-year. It was also her third game where she reached double-figures. She went 5 of 8 from the floor, all 3-pointers.

Beaty ended with three 3-pointers of her own, to score nine which tied her career-high and was a season-high for the sophomore.

Alyssa Chritz ended her Wooster career with eight points and seven rebounds. Biondi and Hardink each scored four points.

Wooster shot 31 percent (16 of 52), while DePauw scorched the nets at 52 percent (30 of 58). The Tigers won the rebounding battle 39-23.

DePauw (19-7) advances in the tournament to face the winner of the 4/5 matchup of Denison University and Oberlin College.

Wooster (6-20) concludes its season, winning more games this year than the last three years combined.
