Scots Finish Third at First of Two NCAC Championship Events

The College of Wooster women's golf team hosted the first portion of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday and Sunday, and finished the two-day event with a solid grip on third-place in the standings heading into next weekend's finale.

The event was held at the Wooster Country Club in Wooster, Ohio, which boasts a par-72, 5,815 yard course, and on Saturday, the Scots had one of their most promising efforts of the season on their home turf. Rainey Sullivan (92), DaSol Kuen (97), and Janet Zahorsky (99) all shot under 100 to lead Wooster to a team score of 401, and then Sunday's 424 gave the Scots an 825 total, which has them sitting in third-place in the standings.

Allegheny College (670) and Wittenberg University (720) raced ahead to 1-2 on the leaderboards, while Wooster (825) positioned itself 22 strokes ahead of fourth-place Denison University (847).

While Sullivan's 92 on day-one was Wooster's best 18 of the weekend, it was Zahorksy who narrowly edged her out for the team's lowest two-day total with a 195 (99-96). Sullivan was next in line with a 197 (92-105), while Kuen finished third on the squad at 204 (97-107). Also adding to Wooster's team total were Joanie Jenkins with a 229 (113-116) and Nichole Gustafson with a 248 (125-123).

Sarah Vorder Bruegge of Allegheny was the individual medalist, as she shot a 166 (82-84), which just bested the efforts of two of her own teammates.

The Scots will look to hold onto the NCAC's No. 3 spot with another solid effort at next weekend's event, which the location for has not yet been determined.
