The College of Wooster women's golf team got the 2013-14 season under way this weekend at the Denison Fall Invitational, and the Fighting Scots finished in the middle of the pack, placing seventh for the second year in a row, which was just one of several remarkable similarities between this year's and last year's results.

Wooster shot a 367 over 18 holes on Saturday, and a 358 on Sunday, which were the exact same scores the Scots turned in on those days a year ago. Its combined score of 725 was good for seventh-place, which was a bit more impressive this year because there were 12 teams in competition compared to 11 last season.

Host institution Denison ran away with the team championship (650), but the rest of the field was closely-contested, as the Scots were just 28 strokes behind co-runner-ups Ohio Wesleyan University and Baldwin Wallace University (697's).

Another unique similarity came via Sharmeen Chinoy's scorecard, as for the second year in a row she shot a 170 at the event, with identical rounds of 86 and 84. This year, her 170 carried more weight, though, as it was good for a share of ninth-place this time around (T-13th last year).

The comparisons stop there, however, as two fresh faces finished behind Chinoy this weekend. Freshman Hannah Buzolits shot a 180 (88-92) in her Wooster debut, while fellow first-year Emily Howerton carded a 187 (97-90), which placed them in ties for 21st and 33rd, respectively, in the field of 77 golfers.

Rounding out those contributing towards the Scots' team score were returners Janet Zahorsky with a 188 (96-92) and Alyssa Gilbert with 196 (103-93).

Wooster will be back on the links next weekend when they participate in the Ohio Wesleyan University Fall Invitational at the Mill Creek Golf Club in Ostrander, Ohio.
