Women's Golf Shatters Records in Kentucky

Melissa Burtscher, Wooster Golf LEXINGTON, Kentucky – The College of Wooster women's golf team shattered its team low-round record by 11 strokes, and two Fighting Scots capped the weekend by breaking the program's individual single-round record at the Transylvania University Fall Invitational. Wooster placed third of 13 teams, finishing behind two squads ranked in the top-20 of the preseason Women's Golf Coaches Association Top-25 Poll.

Wooster, which matched its low round with a 318 on Saturday, shot a 307 on Sunday. Junior Melissa Burtscher and sophomore Ada Pan fueled the record with 72s, scores tied for the lowest round in the program annals. Sophomore Ally Siewert followed with an 80, and junior Grace Lindgren rounded out the 307 with an 83.

Burtscher, who started on hole six, surged late for the record, netting an eagle on the par-4 334-yard first hole at the University of Kentucky Big Blue Course. The junior followed with a birdie on the par-4, 340-yard fourth hole. Of note, Burtscher's eagle is the second in program history and the first since alumna Hannah Buzolits' on hole two of Mohican Hills Golf Club on April 16, 2017. Earlier in the 54-hole tournament, Burtscher logged scores of 81 and 82 before climbing 11 spots to a tie for 13th-place at 235.

Pan's steady play continued with a weekend scoreline of 77, 76, and 72. She tied for sixth-place at 225. Pan's 72 consisted of three birdies and 13 pars, and the sophomore played the back-nine at 2-under-par on Sunday.

Lindgren tied for 20th-place in the 80-competitor field. The transfer logged three birdies on the weekend and played the back-nine at 1-under-par in the second round.

Siewert tied for 33rd-place in her debut event of the year. The sophomore's weekend was headlined by Sunday's 80. She went 87-82 over the first two rounds.

Riley Thorr played in the fifth position in the lineup and came in at 279. The senior tied for 58th-place.

Junior Drew Patterson (93-92-97-282) and sophomore Maddie Moran (104-111-101-316) played as individuals.

The University of Texas at Dallas finished at 896, four strokes clear of Rhodes College. Wooster's 949 was one stroke ahead of fourth-place Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Comets' Karen Lee was the medalist at 219.

Next, Wooster plays in Heidelberg University's Fall Invitational, which takes place September 16-17 at Mohawk Golf Club.
