Wooster Makes Program History at Saturday’s NCAC Championships

Grace Lindgren, Wooster Golf WESTFIELD CENTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's golf team improved by 18 strokes from Friday's round, and Saturday's 331 is a new program record for the lowest team round by the Fighting Scots at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships. Wooster remains in fourth-place with a two-day total of 680 at the par-70, 5,606-yard Westfield Country Club North Course.

Riley Thorr was responsible for a majority of the 18-stroke comeback, as the senior's 86 marked a 14-stroke improvement from Friday. Thorr capped Saturday's round with a birdie on the par-5, 438-yard 18th hole and had pars on holes two, four, 11, and 17. Thorr's 86 was one off her collegiate-best set just last week. Thorr is in 18th-place at 186.

Junior Grace Lindgren was locked in on Saturday, matching a collegiate-best with a 78. That vaulted Lindgren up to ninth-place at 165. Lindgren's back nine came in at 2-over-par. The junior got back on track with a par at the par-3, 126-yard 13th hole, then rolled in a birdie at the par-5, 497-yard 14th hole. A second birdie for the back nine went in on the par-5, 438-yard 18th hole and that brought Lindgren's last six holes to a 1-under-par.

Junior Melissa Burtscher is also in the top-10, with the 163 ranking eighth in the field. Burtscher followed up Friday's 83 with an 80. Burtscher put a circle on the scorecard with a birdie on the par-4, 296-yard fifth hole and played holes five through 11 at 1-over-par. Burtscher played eight holes on the day at par or better.

Wooster is one of two teams in the field currently with three players in the top-10. Sophomore Ally Siewert is Wooster's third, and she will be looking to bounce back from an 87 come Sunday. Siewert hit pars on four of the first six holes and started to find momentum to hopefully springboard into Sunday's round with a par-birdie finish.

Sophomore Maddie Moran's 97 rounded out the lineup. Moran is in 21st-place at 201. The sophomore had a nice par on the par-3, 126-yard 13th hole, with her tee shot coming to rest not far from the hole.

Denison University is leading the six-team field at 614, and saw its lead grow significantly. DePauw University is in second-place at 665. Denison's Kate Griffin continues to lead the individual standings at 147.

Wooster's 333 in the second round of the 2017 NCAC Championships at the Country Club of Meadville was the program's prior low NCAC Championships round.

Wooster is part of the first wave on Sunday, which tees off hole 10 at 12:15 p.m.
