Wooster “Aces” Final Day of NCAC Championships

Melissa Burtscher, Wooster Golf WESTFIELD CENTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's golf team again lowered its program record for low team round in the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, and program history was matched and made in Sunday's final round at the par-70, 5,606-yard Westfield Country Club North Course. Wooster remained in fourth-place with a three-day total of 1,004 after posting a 324 on Sunday, which marked the fourth-lowest round by any team at the 54-hole event.

Junior Melissa Burtscher (first-team), sophomore Ally Siewert (second-team) and junior Grace Lindgren (second-team) earned All-NCAC honors by placing within the field's top-15. With three All-NCAC performers, Wooster matched its record for most in a season and had three all-conference performers in consecutive years for the first time in program history. Wooster previously had three all-conference performers in 2017 and 2021. Additionally, Burtscher and Siewert repeated as all-conference performers, and the program now has six multi-time All-NCAC performers. Burtscher is the second Scot to earn first-team All-NCAC honors in program history, and the junior's fifth-place finish is the second-highest in the program annals.

Other significant highlights from Sunday included when Siewert's second shot on the par-4, 296-yard fifth hole found the bottom of the cup for the sophomore's second-career eagle. Siewert is the first Scot to have multiple eagles in competition and she has two of the program's four. Lindgren and Burtscher, who were playing in consecutive groups, both nearly aced the par-3, 126-yard 13th hole on Sunday, and both were left with tap-in birdies, which they both made.

Burtscher finished at 241 after a Sunday 78. The junior had four birdies on the day and played the five par-3 holes at 1-under-par, with three of the circles coming there. The other birdie dropped on the par-4, 260-yard seventh hole. Burtscher played nine holes at par or better. Of note, Burtscher checked in with an 81.16 average for the year, with that marking a new single-season program record.

Siewert flipped the script from Saturday's 87 with a closing-round 78, which was one stroke off the collegiate-best. Siewert had eight holes at par or better on the day and played Sunday's front nine at 3-over-par. The sophomore's total score added up to 244.

Lindgren finished at 248 after an 83 on Sunday. The near-ace on 13 kicked off a four-hole stretch of par or better, and the junior played the final six holes on the back nine, plus No. 1, at ever par.

Senior Riley Thorr matched her collegiate-best in the final Wooster round. Thorr's 85 kept the senior in the top-20 at 18th-place (271). A birdie putt fell on the par-3, 129-yard 11th hole. The senior had five pars on the day, four of which came over her final nine collegiate holes.

Sophomore Maddie Moran finished in 21st-place at 299. Moran closed out the year with a 98. Moran rolled in a birdie on the par-5, 411-yard 16th hole and pared the par-3, 151-yard eighth hole.

Denison University's day-leading 312 brought the Big Red's winning score to 926, 64 strokes ahead of runner-up DePauw University. Wittenberg University finished in third-place at 997. Laine Hursh was the medalist after a final-round 73, which brought the 54-hole total to 223.
