Wooster Wins Again, as Scots Fill Up Top of Individual Leaderboard

Morgan Erdmann, Wooster Golf WESTFIELD CENTER, Ohio – The top of the leaderboard was stacked with Fighting Scots, as The College of Wooster women's golf team had the top four finishers and five of the top six placers at the inaugural Westfield Collegiate Golf Classic, which took place on Monday and Tuesday at Westfield Country Club. Wooster handily won its second straight tournament, with the Scots following up Monday's 329 with a 313 on Tuesday to finish at 642. The 313 marks the second-lowest round in program history, and Wooster has two rounds under 320 this fall.

Senior Grace Lindgren and junior Ally Siewert were the co-medalists at 158. Both had a round at 78 and one at 80. For Lindgren, the opening 78 matched a collegiate low, while Siewert's Tuesday 78 was one off a collegiate low.

Lindgren's consistent Monday round featured a five-hole and a four-hole stretch of pars, and the senior came in at 1-over-par on the par-3 holes. She played Monday's back nine at 2-over-par. On Tuesday, Lindgren again had a five-hole stretch of pars, this time coming on Westfield's North Course, and the first birdie of the week rolled in on the par-5, 499-yard 16th hole.

Siewert, who like Lindgren, became a first-time Wooster medalist, rolled in a birdie on the par-5, 495-yard closing hole to pull into a tie for medalist honors. That circle on the card was the fourth of the tournament for the junior, who sank an early Tuesday birdie on the par-3, 138-yard third hole. On Monday, Siewert birdied the par-4, 370-yard fourth hole on Westfield's South Course and the par-4, 348-yard 18th hole. Overall, Siewert played 21 of the 36 holes a par or better.

First-year Morgan Erdmann's 161 was the third-place score. Her Tuesday 77 marked the low round of the tournament for the field. Erdmann's Tuesday front nine featured seven pars, including the first four holes on that stretch. A late birdie rolled in on No. 16 making Erdmann one of three Scots to birdie the hole on the day. Erdmann's Monday started with consecutive pars, and with a shotgun-start scorecard pulled together, the first-year had pars on holes 10-13.

Senior Melissa Burtscher's 165 ranked fourth in the 19-competitor field. Burtscher's closing 78 was one of four rounds in the 70s by the Scots at the event. The senior lit up the scoreboard come hole 15 on Tuesday, draining consecutive birdies, and the psychology major played holes 14-18 on the North Course at 2-under-par, thanks to pars on both par-5 holes on the course and a par on No. 17.

Abby Haywood rounded out Wooster's lineup, and the lefty was sixth at 174. Haywood closed with an 83, which matched a collegiate-best. That came on the strength of eight pars, including all four par-3 holes on Tuesday. On Monday, the first-year drained a birdie on the par-3, 158-yard fifth hole.

Of note, Wooster now has 15 all-time medalist honors, spread among 10 Scots. The team title marked the 14th in program history.

Wooster's next tournament is the program's annual Eva Shorb Weiskopf Invitational, held October 1-2 at Wooster Country Club, where the Scots will attempt to win three tournaments in a row for the first time in program history.
