Wooster Runs Away From Field, Wins Record Sixth Tournament

Morgan Erdmann, Wooster Golf WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's golf team seized complete control at the program's annual Wooster Spring Invitational, as the Fighting Scots' tight two-stroke lead after day one exponentially expanded into a 15-stroke win for the program's record sixth tournament title of the year. Wooster's Monday 323 was by far the best team score in the field, and that put the team at a 662 for the two-day home tournament.

Senior Grace Lindgren captured runner-up honors at the final home tournament with a 160 for her fourth top-four finish over the last five tournaments. Lindgren's home finale started with a 79, and the senior got the job done around the greens with just 27 putts in the round. Lindgren was on point down the stretch with five straight pars to cap the round, and she played 12 holes at par or better on Sunday. On Monday, the senior found consistent rhythm on the front nine with six pars, including the final three holes before the turn.

Classmate Melissa Burtscher's birthday weekend was memorable, as the senior's final home event was capped with a par-par finish for a 78. An early birdie fell for Burtscher on the par-3, 150-yard third hole on Monday, and the senior birdied the long 468-yard, par-5 No. 11. Burtscher played both the front and back nine at Wooster Country Club at 3-over-par on Monday. She placed third at 163 for top-five finish eight on the year and it also marked her program-leading 25th career top-10 showing.

Junior Ally Siewert's Monday bounce back helped Wooster put Otterbein University away early. Siewert climbed up the leaderboard to a tie for fourth-place for her seventh top-five finish on the year. A patient and consistent front nine had Siewert in the books for a 2-over-par 38. In fact, Siewert pared seven of the last eight holes on the front nine due to starting on hole 3 in the shotgun-start round. She had two birdies at the tournament.

First-year Morgan Erdmann rounded out the counting scores and she placed eighth at 173 after rounds of 89 and 84. Erdmann's fifth collegiate top-10 was headlined by playing holes five through nine at even par on Monday. A birdie rolled in for the first-year at the par-4, 346-yard sixth hole on Sunday, and she carded par on the challenging No. 11 both days.

Wooster's "B" team was led by an 88 from first-year Liz Hohman on Sunday and an 87 from first-year Paige Nicely on Monday. Both scores were collegiate-bests. Hohman had three straight pars just before Sunday's turn and rolled in a birdie on the par-3, 152-yard 14th hole. Nicely's career low featured four pars, including consecutive ones on Nos. 18 and 1.

Otterbein was the runner-up at 677. The Cardinals' Emma McGreal shot 154 for medalist honors.

Next, Wooster plays at Denison University's Spring Invitational on Sunday, April 28 at Denison Golf Club.
