Burtscher the NCAC Runner-Up, as Scots Cap Historic Year with Third-Place NCAC Finish

Wooster Women's Golf Team WESTFIELD CENTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's golf team gave it everything they had and came up just short of the program's first-ever top-two North Coast Athletic Conference finish. Nonetheless, it was still a very fitting finish to the program's historic season, which saw the team shatter its single-round program record just two days ago. Wooster came in at 316 to finish the 54-hole conference championships at 916, two strokes back of second-place DePauw University and 15 back of Denison University.

Wooster's season average came out to 321.5, a 14-stroke betterment of the 335.5 set just last year. Senior Melissa Burtscher – the NCAC runner-up, marking the highest conference individual finish in program history – became the first player in program history to average under 80 strokes per round for the season. Burtscher's average was lowered to 79.1 after a 75 on Sunday. Junior Ally Siewert (80.0) and senior Grace Lindgren (80.6) both came in under Burtscher's then-record 81.2 from 2022-23, while Lindgren (82.5) graduates as the program's all-time leader in scoring average.

Burtscher, who became the first two-time first-team all-conference performer in program history, is one of four three-time All-NCAC performers in program history. Steadiness continued for Burtscher, who fired off six straight pars, starting with the par-3, 138-yard third hole at the 5,528-yard, par-70 Westfield Country Club North Course. Burtscher logged 13 pars on the day and just missed capping her legendary career with a birdie on the 495-yard 18th hole.

Siewert, one of the other three-time All-NCAC performers, was a second-team qualifier with the ninth-place score of 232. Siewert shot an 80 on Sunday and just missed her fourth collegiate eagle on the final hole. The birdie cleanup followed and was the second birdie for Siewert over the last five holes on the championship. She had an early birdie on the round with that coming on No. 3.

Lindgren earned all-conference honors for the second time and an elevation to the All-NCAC second-team with a 10th-place finish. Lindgren capped her collegiate career with an 84. The round started strong for Lindgren with three straight pars and she had five pars on the opening eight holes. A birdie dropped for Lindgren on the par-5, 435-yard 14th hole, and she followed it up with two straight pars.

First-year Morgan Erdmann capped a successful first-year season with third-team all-conference honors. Erdmann posted an 82.9 average for the season, marking the best by a first-year player in program history. Her 237 for the conference championships included a final-round 81. Erdmann pared nine holes on the day, including all three par-5 holes on Westfield's back nine.

First-year Abby Haywood contributed to Sunday's team score with an 80. Haywood's 246 was the 18th-place score. Haywood was the best down the stretch with a 3-over-par on the back nine. Haywood scored six pars during that stretch and tallied 10 for the round.

DePauw's Becky Williams was the individual medalist with a 210, eight strokes ahead of Burtscher.

Wooster won a program-record six tournament this season. Wooster's four all-conference performers is also a new program record.
