Mellis Ties Single-Game Record for Goals as Scots Defeat Gators 22-13

Senior Alexa Mellis used her senior recognition day to put on a show as she tied the program's single-game record with eight goals to lead The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team to a 22-13 win over Allegheny College on Saturday.

Mellis and her classmates – Ashley Boersma, Katie Harvey, Lauryn Hill, Katie Shideler, Claire Truscott and Miura Wiley - were honored prior to the game, and then the Scots proceeded to score the first five goals of the game.

Wiley and Britta Treu each scored twice within the first four minutes and Mellis capped off the run with her first score.

The two teams traded a series of goals before Wooster scored three straight from the senior trio of Boersma, Mellis and Harvey. Mellis scored twice more in the half, and Wooster entered halftime with a 15-7 lead.

Wiley, Jill Murray and Mellis scored the first three goals of the second half. Mellis scored again with 16:42 left and 6:08 left before tying the school record with 3:39 remaining in the game.

Wiley finished with four goals, while Treu and Murray each collected three. Hannah Shaw added a goal and a team-high three assists.

Wiley led the team with 11 draw controls. Harvey followed with 10, and Shaw finished with eight. The Scots won 30-of-36 draw control battles.

Shideler collected win number three in goal after making four saves. Wooster outshot the Gators 45-24.

Wooster moves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC East, while Allegheny falls to 1-3 and 0-2 in conference play.

The Scots travel to Kenyon on Wednesday.
