Morris' OT Score Keeps Scots Perfect

Kenzie Morris, Wooster Lacrosse ANGOLA, Indiana – First-year Kenzie Morris scored with 3:48 remaining in overtime to lift The College of Wooster to a 12-11 win over Trine University on Wednesday evening.

Morris was overtime's focal point, starting with winning the opening draw of the period. She had a chance to win it seconds in, but the shot went wide. Trine (4-2) never got the ball into the offensive end in the extra stanza, with Taylor Dudley coughing it up during a clear attempt. Morris was right there to scoop up the groundball at the 4:02 mark, and less than 20 seconds later, the first-year fired the winning shot over the shoulder of a Thunder defender and past 'keeper Jillian Rejczyk.

Senior Syd Schuster outworked a Trine defender for the game-tying goal with 1:37 remaining in the fourth. Wooster (7-0) nearly had a one-on-one chance, thanks to having a step on another Thunder defender on a cut, but the pass went through the center where Schuster snatched it up.

Wooster had several chances at a game-winner in regulation. Rejczyk turned in three of her game-high 15 saves in the final 64 seconds of the fourth, including one with just four ticks remaining on the clock. Wooster junior Clare Leithauser kept Trine from setting up a try at a game-winner, causing a turnover on Brooke Hoag, then coming up with possession of the groundball.

The Scots overcame a 5-1 first-period deficit. Junior Jill Murray gave Wooster its first lead of the night at the 11:45 mark of the fourth, finishing a feed from Morris. A Schuster-to-Murray score gave Wooster the lead again, this time at 10-9 with 4:59 in regulation. Trine's Calista Richmond netted a pair of scores prior to Schuster's tying tally.

Murray's four goals led the Scots, while Schuster logged a hat trick. Morris ended the night with four points, with her two assists marking the co-game-high. Junior Britta Treu's four groundballs marked the most on Wooster's side, while Leithauser was credited with three of the Scots' five caused turnovers. Elsewhere, junior Hannah Shaw had seven of Wooster's 17 draw controls and senior CC Dent made a career-high nine saves.

Liv Ghent led Trine with four goals, while Rejczky was credited with a game-leading six groundballs. Ghent won four of Trine's 10 draw controls.

Wooster outshot Trine 37-28, but the Thunder did a better job holding onto the ball, with 16 turnovers to the Scots' 20.

Wooster's (0-0 North Coast Athletic Conference) back in Indiana on Saturday for a noon game at DePauw University (4-1, 0-0 NCAC).
