Scots Tally 14 Goals But Can’t Stop JCU Second Half Run

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Tied at 12 early in the fourth quarter, John Carroll University scored five unanswered as The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team fell 17-14 on Wednesday.

Hannah Shaw knotted the game at 12 with 14:11 left in the fourth. Yet, Wooster would go quiet offensively as John Carroll strung together five goals to go up 17-12 with 5:51 remaining.

Wooster attempted a late comeback with goals from Jill Murray and Syd Schuster but it became too little too late as Wooster suffered just its second loss on the year.

The teams traded goals in the first quarter as John Carroll took an early 4-3 lead after one quarter. Kenzie Morris then scored four of Wooster's six goals in the second quarter for the Scots to take a 9-6 lead at halftime.

Murray scored the second half's first goal, but John Carroll got back in it with four unanswered to tie the game at 10. Shaw scored again to put Wooster back up, but John Carroll again answered. They scored two goals in the final minute of the third to take a 12-11 lead.

Morris led the Scots with four goals. Shaw and Caitlyn O'Connor recorded three, while Murray and Schuster finished with two.

O'Connor led the team with two assists. Murray and Morris each recorded one.

Murray also led the team with four ground balls. Shaw recorded 11 draw controls, while Morris caused two turnovers. CC Dent made seven saves in net.

John Carroll moves to 5-5 overall, while Wooster moves to 11-2.

The Scots return to conference play next Wednesday when they host Allegheny College.
