Kenyon Clinches NCAC Title with Win Over Scots

CC Dent The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team hosted its final regular season home contest on Wednesday and took a 15-6 loss to Kenyon College.

Kenyon continues to roll as the season winds down, winning its 10th straight and clinching the North Coast Athletic Conference title. They are now 12-1 on the season and 6-0 in NCAC play.

Wooster entered with a streak as well, having won its last 11 home games. With the loss, they move to 13-3 overall and 4-3 in the NCAC.

After Kenyon's first goal, Wooster thought they tied the contest up but the referees took back a score by Ciara O'Connor after a stick check.

That allowed Kenyon an opening, and they went up 4-0 after the first 12 minutes behind three goals from Caroline O'Neil. O'Neil was a threat all night, ending with four goals and two assists.

Kenzie Morris finally got Wooster on the board with 2:51 left in the first, but Kenyon scored again with time winding down and led 5-1 after one.

Kenyon's Julia Losey scored three of her game-high five goals in the second quarter to lead Kenyon to an 11-3 lead at the half. Wooster scored twice in the quarter, one each from Syd Schuster and Hannah Shaw.

The game slowed down in the third, as the teams traded goals. Shaw and Schuster again scored in the quarter and the Scots trailed 13-5 after three.

In the fourth, Caitlyn O'Connor scored with 1:44 remaining to wrap up scoring for Wooster.

Morris led the squad with six draw controls, while Schuster and Clare Leithauser led the team with three ground balls. CC Dent made six saves in net.

Wooster succeeded in 12-of-21 clear attempts and tallied 15 draw controls.

Wooster will look for its second-ever 14-win season next time out when they travel to Denison University on Saturday.
