GRANVILLE - The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday with a 21-9 loss to Denison University.
Sophomore Ciara O'Connor led the Scots with her second three-goal game this season. Syd Schuster and Kenzie Smith each added a pair, while Hannah Shaw and Caitlyn O'Connor each scored once.
O'Connor scored the game's opening goal, and the two teams played to a 3-3 tie with 5:37 left in the first. Denison closed the first with three additional goals to make it 6-3.
However, Wooster opened the second with goals from Caitlyn O'Connor and Schuster. Schuster scored twice in the quarter, and Smith scored with a minute remaining for the Scots to trail by just two, 9-7, at halftime.
Unfortunately, the second half belonged to Denison who outscored the Scots 7-0 in the third quarter and 5-2 in the fourth.
CC Dent made 12 saves in the loss. Clare Leithauser led the Scots in draw controls with five and tied Dent with a team high three ground balls.
Denison was nearly perfect on its clear attempts, failing on just one of 23 tries. Wooster wasn't too far behind, converting 20-of-24 attempts.
Denison improves to 10-5 overall and 6-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play. Wooster moves to 13-4 overall and 4-3 in the NCAC.
Wooster earned the fourth seed in the upcoming NCAC Tournament. They will face and travel to top-seeded Kenyon College (7-0) at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
In the other matchup, Denison enters as the two seed and will take on DePauw University (3-2).
