Senior Salute - Anna Truong

Anna Truong Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Anna Truong, a mathematics major from Aurora, Colorado. Truong is a member of the women's lacrosse team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I wanted the opportunity to push myself academically and further my development in lacrosse. The people were so welcoming on my first visit, plus, I loved the beautiful campus.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a student-athlete means being able to represent the ScotLax culture on and off the field. We take pride in our team and stand for one another no matter what.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The spring break trips with the team. We had a blast in the industrial parks of Allentown, Pennsylvania in 2020. Last year, Alabama and Arkansas were some states I checked off the bucket list of the USA.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The opportunities that were brought to me through the academics, playing the sport I love, and the relationships I have developed along the way. I am truly blessed with what I made from my experiences here.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I dabbled in many clubs. Pi Kappa is the one I committed to the most. I was a resident assistant and worked in campus access and the post office.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Coach (Elizabeth) Ford because she has been with me through the trenches from having to stay an extra night due to travel logistics when I was being recruited to navigating the college experience. Dr. (Drew) Pasteur helped navigate me through the journey of being a mathematics major after declaring at the last minute and he is my Independent Study advisor.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: I would say the biggest part of my journey is having people who supported me in all areas of my life. I am very thankful to everyone who has helped me navigate through Wooster, from mentors in my extracurriculars and lacrosse to resources provided by the College, like APEX (Wooster's center for Advising, Planning, and Experiential Learning), ARC (Academic Resource Center), STEM Zone, Math Center, and Longbrake Student Wellness Center.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I'm looking to understand first-generation graduation rates at The College of Wooster and applying mathematical models to factors that affect retention. I am looking at pre-college, college, and demographic variables.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I was part of the Wooster Community Hospital Health Coach Programand had the sweetest and kindest patient I met with biweekly. We were also advised under healthcare professionals at Wooster Community Hospital and gained a lot of professional skills through reporting to them.

Q: Reflecting on your time at Wooster, what advice would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Put yourself out there to ask for help and to connect with those resources. Also, talk to those sophomores, juniors, and seniors who you thought you would never become friends with. They might be the most influential people in your life during and after college.
