Scots Roll Past Pioneers, 19-5

MARIETTA, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team kicked off its three-game spring break trip with a 19-5 win over Marietta College on Wednesday evening at Marietta Field.

Wooster, now 5-0, hit the 18-goal mark for the fourth consecutive game, and the Fighting Scots have yet to concede double-digit goals on the year. Wooster entered play Wednesday as one of 18 teams within NCAA Div. III to have at least four wins and no losses on the season.

Sophomore Kenzie Morris accounted for nearly a third of Wooster's goals. Her six marked a career-high and were nearly double her season total heading into play. Morris found the back of the net three times during Wooster's decisive 7-0 second period, and the final tally of that frame broke the game wide open at 9-2.

Senior Jill Murray found classmate Hannah Shaw for a player-up goal with 11:01 to go in the third that was the capper of the Scots' stretch of 10 unanswered goals. Wooster scored four straight to start the fourth, with two of the scores coming from sophomore Kaitlyn McBride.

Shaw's three goals backed up Morris in the scoring column, while first-year Lizzie Hardy, McBride, and Murray all finished with two. Murray added three assists and two groundballs to her line, sophomore Lexi Sarne was the high Scot in the groundball column at four, and Shaw was credited with two of Wooster's five caused turnovers. Sophomore Ashley Reynolds' six saves tied the first-year collegiate 'keeper's high, and five of those stops came during the 7-0 second period. Shaw won four of Wooster's 13 draw controls.

Hope Adams scored twice for Marietta, and was the Pioneers' do-it-all player with a team-high four draw controls and a tri-team-best one caused turnover. Abby May stopped nine Wooster shots.

Wooster had 35 shots to Marietta's 25, had three less turnovers than the Pioneers, and the teams split 26 draw controls.

Next, Wooster continues on to Virginia for a pair of games, starting with Saturday's 1 p.m. game at Virginia Wesleyan University (1-5).
