Wooster Just Shy of School Record in Rout of Illinois Wesleyan

Hannah Shaw, Wooster Lacrosse SHREVE, Ohio – Sophomore Kenzie Morris scored a career-high seven goals to help lead The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team to a season-high 26 goals in Saturday's 26-7 win over Illinois Wesleyan University at Triway High School.

Wooster's (7-1) six goals over the final 5:56 of the second period built the lead out to 13-5 at halftime. Morris started that stretch with goal two of the day, and senior Hannah Shaw followed with consecutive scores, which were assisted by Morris and junior Angelina Bolivar. First-year Brynne Snaguski got in on the scoring with 1:16 left in the second, then Morris scored again just before halftime.

Senior Britta Treu assisted on three consecutive scores that blanketed halftime, including Morris' team-leading 25th goal of the year. Four of Morris' scores came during Wooster's 8-0 run, and that ballooned into a 19-2 stretch.

Wooster's defense was aided by a gusting wind that made it even more challenging for the Titans (3-7) to clear the ball. Illinois Wesleyan was just 4-of-13 on the day and turned the ball over 23 times. Treu caused a pair of Illinois Wesleyan turnovers in the first period, while junior Kenzie Smith forced one just before midfield. Senior Clare Leithauser was the menace after that on the way to a game-high three caused turnovers.

While Wooster's 26 goals were one off the single-game program record set in 2018, it took some time for the Scots to pick apart the Titans. Rebecca Rymarcsuk made 12 saves, eight of which came in the first period, which kept the Scots from roaring out of the gate.

Morris' seven goals were two off alumna Syd Schuster's single-game program record set last year. Shaw followed with five goals, and sophomore Kaitlyn McBride put a dent in the scoring column with four goals and an assist, all of which came in the final 21 minutes and change of the contest. McBride also had four draw controls in the win and was one of four Scots to have at least that many. First-year Lizzie Hardy and Morris won six draws apiece and Shaw's four rounded out the Scots with at least a quartet.

Hardy and first-year Bella Woodbury accounted for a third of Wooster's 24 groundballs with four each. Sophomores Ashley Reynolds and JG Garrison each made a save in the win.

Mia Fiandaca was a do-it-all player for Illinois Wesleyan with three goals and six draw controls. The Titans' goalkeeping trio saved 19 of the Scots' shots.

Wooster dominated the stat columns with a 48-13 edge on shots, a 24-12 mark in groundballs, and a 23-13 lead in draw controls.

Next, Wooster hits the road for a pair of contests, starting with a noon game at Hope College (3-4) on April 1.
