Balanced Offense Leads Wooster Past Hope, 17-14

Anna Truong, Wooster Lacrosse HOLLAND, Michigan – The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team saw five different players score multiple goals to lead the Fighting Scots to a 17-14 victory over Hope College on Saturday afternoon at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The first three quarters featured a lot of offense from both teams; however, Wooster (8-1) had the slight scoring advantage in the middle two periods to hold off the Flying Dutch (3-5).

Sophomore Kenzie Morris led the attack with five goals and two assists while also proving to be a force in the midfield, corralling a team-high and season-best nine draw controls. Senior Hannah Shaw netted four goals herself. First-year Lizzie Hardy tied her season-high with three goals and also grabbed a team-best five groundballs. Seniors Jill Murray and Britta Treu had two goals apiece while Treu dished out a team-high three assists and Murray added an assist of her own.

Both teams traded 2-0 runs throughout the first quarter until Hope scored with 40 seconds remaining to take a 5-4 lead after one period. The game stayed tight as there were four different ties throughout the second quarter. This time, though, Wooster scored late to take the 10-9 lead heading into halftime.

The Flying Dutch were still within one goal halfway through the third period before back-to-back player-up goals from Hardy and Morris highlighted a 3-0 run that helped Wooster start to pull away. Hope came within two goals of the Scots early in the fourth quarter; however, Hardy and Morris both found the back of the net once again to help Wooster secure the victory.

Sophomore Ashley Reynolds picked up the win in the net and recorded a career-best eight saves in the process.

Elena Salazar paced Hope with five goals, Maddie Yakes had 10 saves and five groundballs.

Wooster has a quick turnaround as it next hits the field on Sunday, April 2 in a 12 p.m. game at Kalamazoo College (4-5).
