Scots Score First Seven Goals in 18-12 Win

The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team handled business before its spring break trip with a 18-12 win at Washington and Jefferson College on Thursday.

Six Scots scored multiple goals including four who scored three. Kenzie SmithCiara O'ConnorKenzie Morris and Lizzie Hardy led the way.

Wooster scored the first seven goals of the game to give them enough of a cushion, opening with a 3-0 first quarter. The senior O'Connor opened scoring for the Scots before Smith broke open the game with two goals near the end of the period.

Smith scored on a free position goal with 1:04 left and connected again with 17 seconds left in the quarter.

Wooster then scored the first four of the second quarter behind goals from Morris, Bella WoodburyHardyand Sophia Mellis. Morris and Woodbury would score again later in the quarter for Wooster to take a 9-3 lead at halftime.

The second half played mostly even. The teams traded goals to keep it a six-goal lead after three quarters.

The sophomore Snaguski scored to open the half off an assist by Hardy. Later Snaguski repaid the favor, assisting on a goal by Hardy.

Morris scored her third goal of the game with 6:33 left in the quarter, but Washington and Jefferson got one back to make it a 12-6 game.

It was more back and forth in the final quarter as the teams combined to score 12 goals.

O'Connor added two goals, while Madelyn Noll scored her first. Meanwhile, Smith, Snaguski and Hardy all added to their goal totals with Smith and Hardy scoring their third goals of the game.

Wooster (4-0) outshot the Presidents (0-3) 37-25 and won 17 draw controls to Washington and Jefferson's 12. Hardy herself had seven draw controls.

Wooster also was successful in 17 of 18 clear attempts. Soleil Dubois collected three groundballs to lead the Scots, who totaled 18 in the game.

Ashley Reynolds made seven saves for her fourth win in goal.

Next, Wooster will travel to Florida for a pair of games. They open against Westfield St. on Monday.
