Offense Shines in 20-6 Win at St. Mary's

Brynne Snaguski, Wooster Lacrosse NOTRE DAME, Indiana – The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team scored on 61 percent (20-of-33) of its shots in Wednesday's 20-6 rout of Saint Mary's College (Indiana). Wooster's 20 goals matched the team's high total for the season.

Offense was near instantaneous for Wooster (6-1), which scored seven times in the first quarter. Junior Kenzie Morris started the offensive onslaught at the first stanza's 11:40 mark, and the score was already 3-0 at 9:16. Wooster scored twice in the final 48 seconds of the opening stanza, with both scores coming from senior Kenzie Smith. Sophomore Sidney O'Rourke kept possession with Wooster in between the Smith scores with a draw control.

Wooster poured it on in the second quarter, scoring four times in a 2:25 span. Sophomore Brynne Snaguski found the back of the net for the 15th time this season, then Smith tallied goal 22 on the year. Draw controls stayed with Wooster during the frenzy, with sophomore Lizzie Hardy winning three of the four.

A St. Mary's (1-5) turnover followed the Belles' draw control win following Wooster upping the score to 15-2, which is where the score was at halftime.

Three straight goals were scored by Wooster at the third period's onset, with all coming in the first 3:34, which was even more impressive, given the running clock. Morris won the opening draw control of the stanza, and sophomore Bella Woodbury came away with a groundball following an Alyssa Grant turnover after Wooster's first third-period goal. Hardy collected one of her six draw controls before a junior Kaitlyn McBride-to-Morris goal made it 18-3.

Wooster's 20 goals were spread among eight players. Smith's four goals were the game high. McBride, Morris, and Snaguski all netted hat tricks, while McBride and Smith tied for top honors in points at five. Wooster had three players – Hardy, Morris, O'Rourke, and junior Lexi Sarne – with three groundballs. O'Rourke matched Hardy for the draw-control high at six, and Morris caused two of Wooster's eight caused turnovers.

Junior Ashley Reynolds and first-year Audrey Richardson split time in goal and made two saves.

Reese Bauer's three goals led St. Mary's.

Wooster outshot St. Mary's 33-9 and had 23 groundballs to the Belles' 10.

Next, Wooster hosts Transylvania University (2-4) at noon on Saturday, March 23. The team is holding a DKMS bone marrow registration drive during Saturday's game at the table near the ticket booth at John P. Papp Stadium.
