With Late Equalizer, Wooster Claims 1-1 Result on the Road in Season Opener

A 73rd-minute tally by sophomore Krissy Blanchard capped the game's scoring as The College of Wooster women's soccer team came away with a hard-fought 1-1 draw on the opening night of the 2017 season as part of the DoubleTree Tartan Cup hosted by Carnegie Mellon University at Pittsburgh, Pa.

Wooster (0-0-1) played a scoreless first 45 minutes before falling back 1-0 minutes into the second half.

Bridgewater College (0-0-1), which spent the majority of last season regionally-ranked, opened the scoring with a 49th-minute tally from Isabella Krider, who knocked home a close-range ball from teammate Keri Rager after she beat her defender down the left flank.

Nearly 25 minutes after the game's opener, first-year Mila Zunich found space down the left side before delivering a through ball to the far post, as Blanchard ran up to tuck it away between the goalkeeper and the post to draw level.

With no seniors and a reservoir of talented youth on this year's roster, it's no surprise to see head coach David "Geordie" Brown's underclassmen contributing from the start.

Both teams managed two corner kicks in overtime while Bridgewater outshot the Scot 3-1 and 11-7 on the game. Zunich, Blanchard, and junior Devin Frisby each put a shot on frame for the Black and Gold.

In goal, junior Maddy Ireton and first-year Molly Hutter split time, with Hutter making two saves en route to earning the decision.

Next up, Wooster takes on Frostburg State (0-1-0), who lost to No. 22 Carnegie Mellon in the Cup's opener, on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 4 p.m. at Pittsburgh, Pa.
