A 63rd-minute goal from Megan Davis tipped an even-keeled game in favor of the Tigers as Wittenberg University defeated The College of Wooster 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Edwards-Maurer Field in Springfield, Ohio.
After a scoreless first-half which saw four shots for each side, Wittenberg (5-4-3, 3-1 North Coast Athletic Conference) netted the game-winner midway through the second half on the unassisted strike from Davis.
On the game, the Tigers outshot Wooster (5-5-2, 2-1 NCAC) 10-7, including 6-3 on goal. Sophomore Kelsey Hall led the Fighting Scots with two shots, both landing on frame.
First-year Miura Wiley nearly brought it level with a header in the 86th minute, but Tigers goalkeeper Hannah Wilson did well to dissolve the threat.
Wittenberg held the corner kick advantage, 5-3, while junior goalkeeper Maddy Ireton finished with five saves, compared to Wilson's three.
Up next, Wooster plays host to Kenyon College on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m at Carl Dale Memorial Field.
