Scots Give Purple Raiders First Loss

Naomi Mann ALLIANCE – The College of Wooster women's soccer team handed the University of Mount Union its first loss with a 2-0 victory on Wednesday.

It was Wooster's second straight win over an OAC opponent, having defeated Wilmington 3-2 in its last game out. Wooster is now 3-2-2.

Mount Union snaps a two-win streak and drops to 3-1-2 on the year.

The Scots had seven corners in the game but it was their first that made the biggest difference.

Wooster was awarded a corner shortly after sophomore Lily Glaza had a shot go just high off a free kick. Junior Naomi Mann took the corner, but as Mount Union tried to clear, the ball found the left foot of Mann for the score in the fifth minute.

Wooster held on to that 1-0 lead into halftime and for most of the game. That was until junior Grace Gascoigne found the back of the net in the 80th minute for the insurance goal.

Wooster outshot the Purple Raiders 13-8. Amanda Flory got the win and shutout in net, making four saves.

The Scots travel to John Carroll University on Sunday before returning home for a Wednesday matchup against Baldwin Wallace University.
