Electrifying Start For Scots in NCAC Opener

Naomi Mann Junior Naomi Mann did a little bit of everything to propel The College of Wooster women's soccer team to a 4-2 win over Oberlin College on Saturday.

Mann assisted on Wooster's first two goals, scored by Emma Jaros in the 20th minute and Katie Schumacher in the 28th minute. She later got in the scoring column herself with the game's last goal in the 81st minute thanks to an assist from first-year Charlotte Sefcik, her first points of her collegiate career.

The stats won't show that Mann was a part of three of Wooster's four team saves as her defensive play on corner kicks became the difference for the Scots in their North Coast Athletic Conference opener. That aided first-year goalkeeper Kameryn Nelson in net, who made four saves for the win.

Wooster led 2-0 at halftime before the teams traded goals in the second half. Oberlin's Heather Benway used her speed to assist on Oberlin's first goal in the 57th minute and later scoring in the 64th minute. Teammate Zoe Garver scored the first goal and assisted on the second.

Schumacher assisted Teddi Farson for a score in the 60th minute as the seniors connected on Senior Day. The two celebrated the day with defender Helena Janczak.

Plenty of shots were taken on Saturday as Wooster outshot the Yeowomen 23-17. Oberlin had four corner kicks to Wooster's one.

The Scots defeated Oberlin by the same score last year. In that one, Farson had two goals and an assist, and Mann also tallied a goal.

Wooster moves to 6-3-2 overall and 1-0 in NCAC play. Next, they host DePauw University on Saturday.
