Own Goal Sinks Wooster

Grace Gascoigne

DELAWARE – A late own goal was the difference Saturday as The College of Wooster women's soccer team fell to Ohio Wesleyan 1-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference action.

In the 76th minute, Ohio Wesleyan's Halle Dacek sent a ball from the left side of the box toward the right post but along the way her shot caromed off a Wooster defender and went in.

Wooster could not find the equalizer as they were shutout for the third time this season.

Wooster outshot the Battling Bishops 24-17. They had a couple of prime opportunities in the first half including a shot from Grace Gascoigne hitting off the post and another where Kelsey Maley had a shot cleared off the line from an Ohio Wesleyan defender.

Wooster keeper Kameryn Nelson made eight saves, while her counterpart Natalie Ryan made four. The Scots also had five corners while Ohio Wesleyan had just one.

Wooster drops to 6-5-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the NCAC. Ohio Wesleyan improves to 9-2-2 and is tied for first in the NCACA at six points with a 2-1 record.

Wooster returns home Tuesday when they host Hiram College in its regular season home finale.
