Early Penalty Kick Goal Dooms Women's Soccer

Helena Janczak GRANVILLE – The College of Wooster women's soccer team needed a win on Saturday to extend its season but unfortunately fell to Denison University 1-0.

The difference was a penalty kick goal in which Denison was awarded in the 10th minute. Goalkeeper Kameryn Nelson guessed right on the attempt, but it was just out of her reach as Dulcie Heyes scored the game winner for the Big Red.

Wooster struggled to get much offense going in the first half as they were outshot 15-3. They got better in the second half as both teams took six shots, but Wooster failed to find the equalizer.

Denison ended up outshooting Wooster 21-9. Nelson finished the game with six saves.

Up for grabs Saturday was a spot in the upcoming North Coast Athletic Conference tournament.

Denison (5-8-4) guaranteed themselves the fourth seed, finishing the year with a 4-1-2 conference record. Wooster (7-6-4) ends up on the outside looking in with a 2-3-2 NCAC record.
