Women's Soccer Takes Win in Home Opener

Hallie Kryzys The College of Wooster women's soccer team came back from an early mistake to score three unanswered goals for a 3-1 win over Grove City College on Saturday in the team's home opener at Carl Dale Field.

Grove City got on the board just 56 seconds into the game after a cross from Gianna D'Amato found the wrong angle of a Wooster defender to give the Wolverines an early 1-0 lead.

Wooster would need the next 35 minutes to find the equalizer as senior Grace Gascoigne scored her first goal of the year after a assist from junior Lily Glaza. Glaza found Gascoigne off the throw-in as Gascoigne marched down the field for the score.

Wooster would break the tie in the 66th minute on another throw-in assist from Glaza. This time, she found Emma Jaros in front of the net, who also tallied her first score of the year.

Finally, Wooster picked up some insurance in the 70th minute as Gascoigne found junior Hallie Krzys to put Wooster up 3-1. It was Krzys's second goal of the early season.

Amanda Flory played the full 90 minutes for the first time this season, collecting six saves in the win. Her counterpart, Courtney Lisman, made just two saves.

Both teams reached double digits in shots, with Grove City holding the advantage 17-15. However, Wooster had seven shots on goal to Grove City's five.

Wooster also had six corner kicks to Grove City's four.

Grove City falls to 2-2, while Wooster stays unbeaten at 3-0-1. The Scots return to action on Sunday when they host Muskingum University.
