Moore's First Collegiate Goal A Game Winner for Scots

Lindsey Moore Senior Lindsey Moore came through big on her first collegiate goal, hitting the game winner in Wooster's North Coast Athletic Conference opener, a 2-0 win over Wittenberg University on Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, Moore scored in the 62nd minute as the Scots worked the ball from one side of the field to the other. From the left side, Julia Struck put the ball into the middle of the field to find Hallie Krzys, who kept it moving to the right side to find Moore.

Moore was led to the right post and her shot in the top, right corner evaded the Wittenberg keeper and gave Wooster the lead.

Not finished there, Wooster received a penalty kick in the 65th minute, and the NCAC points leader, Naomi Mann, recorded her eighth goal of the year. Mann is now 4-for-4 on the year in penalty kicks.

In the first half, Mann put forth Wooster's best shot at a goal with a laser from outside the box, but a jumping save from Wittenberg keeper Lily Winkle kept it a scoreless game.

The Tigers outshot the Scots 8-5 in the first half, but Wooster turned the tide in the second half, controlling most of the possession and outshooting the Tigers 6-4.

Wooster keeper Kameryn Nelson made five saves in the shutout. Four came in the first half alone. Winkle also finished with five saves.

Wooster, ranked third regionally in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, moves to 9-0-2 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC. Wittenberg falls to 2-6-4 and 0-1 in the NCAC.

Next, Wooster will travel to Oberlin College on Wednesday.
