Women Open Spring Season Versus No. 12 Spartans

Otilia Oita The College of Wooster women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule Sunday falling to 12th-ranked Case Western Reserve University 9-0 at Aspen Racquet Club.

The top three singles flights all put up fights with strong starts in each of the first sets.

In the No. 1 flight Otilia Oita took the first set and saw three tiebreakers but ultimately fell 7-6 (1), 6-7 (5), 1-0 (9). 

Janaki Jagannathan also forced a tiebreaker in set one of the No. 2 flight but could not pull away and fell 7-6 (4), 6-2.

Charitha Patlolla won her first set in the No. 3 flight but fell in the super tiebreaker in the end, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (6).

Elsewhere, Kim Nguyen lost 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 flight. Katie Materick fell 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 5 flight, and Abby Aitken fell 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 6 flight.

Case Western Reserve (1-0) started the match by sweeping all three doubles flights. The No. 1 team of Oita and Jagannathan fell 8-1.

At No. 2, Materick and Nguyen lost 8-0, while at No. 3, Patlolla and Abby Kushner Benson were the closest with an 8-4 defeat.

With a win in the fall, the Scots move to 1-1 on the year.

Next Saturday, the Scots will take on John Carroll University.
