Scots Open Weekend With Win Over Otterbein

Katie Materick The College of Wooster women's tennis team started its two-game homestand this weekend with an 8-1 victory over Otterbein University on Friday.

It was either team's match after a tough battle in doubles play, but Wooster swept singles action to cruise to the win.

Each doubles match was separated by three or less games as Wooster took wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 flights.

The No. 1 team of Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan won 8-6, and the No. 3 team of Charitha Patlolla and Katie Materick won 8-5. The No. 2 team of Kim Nguyen and Abby Williams took their opponents to a tiebreaker but ultimately fell 8-7 (4).

In the head singles match, Oita defeated Erin Storrer 6-4, 7-5.

Three other matches were won in straight sets as Jagannathan won by retirement in her second set in the No. 2 flight. Williams won at the No. 4 spot 6-3, 6-4, while Materick took the No. 5 flight 6-2, 6-1.

Nguyen won her first set and cruised in the third for a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Finally, Abby Aitken won the No. 6 flight 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Otterbein moves to 2-2 on the season. Wooster moves to 3-1 and welcomes Kalamazoo College to Aspen Racquet Club on Saturday.
