Scots Run Win Streak to Four Before Ending Spring Break Trip with Loss

Kim Nguyen HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The College of Wooster women's tennis team split its final two games of its spring break trip in Hilton Head, S.C., defeating Millikin University 5-4 and falling to Carleton College 8-1.

The Scots went 3-1 on the trip, running a season-high win streak of four, to improve to 8-3 on the season.

It was a tight contest against Millikin as Wooster had to fight back after falling behind in doubles play. Wooster lost each flight, including an 8-7 (4) fight at the No. 1 flight for Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan.

Thankfully for Wooster they took five of the six singles matches to seal the win. Three of the matches went to a third set super tiebreaker.

Oita was on the wrong end of another tiebreaker in the No. 1 flight, falling 7-5, 0-6, 1-0 (5). However, the rest of the team picked her up.

Winning in straight sets was Jagannathan in the No. 2 flight (6-3, 6-2), Abby Williams in the No. 5 flight (6-3, 6-3) and Katie Materick in the No. 6 flight (6-3, 6-1).

The closest matches that went in favor for the Scots came in the No. 3 flight for Charitha Patlolla, who won 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (6) and Kim Nguyen who won 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5).

Wooster then struggled against Carleton, who swept the Scots in doubles play and won all but one singles flight. Scoring for Wooster was Nguyen in the No. 4 flight.

She once again came victorious after a super tiebreaker, winning 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (2).

Wooster will return to Ohio and will get right into North Coast Athletic Conference action on March 31 with a contest at Oberlin College.
