Women’s Tennis Drops Heartbreaker to Oberlin

OBERLIN – The College of Wooster women's tennis team benefited from three default wins but could not collect the overall win against Oberlin College on Friday, falling 5-4.

Wooster, who entered the regional rankings this week at 12th, won by default in the No. 3 doubles flight and the No. 5 and No. 6 singles slots as Oberlin failed to fill those flights. Kim Nguyen then gave Wooster its fourth point with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 4 flight.

With Otilia Oita falling at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3, and Cherry Patlolla falling at the No. 3 flight, 6-2, 7-6 (2), the match came down to the No. 2 flight.

Janaki Jagannathan and Anna Pastore battled it out in three sets. Pastore took the early lead, only for Jagannathan to force a third.

From there, the match went to a tiebreaker in the third set, and Pastore hung on for a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (5) win.

It was Wooster's first North Coast Athletic Conference matchup as they fall to 8-4 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC. Oberlin moves to 7-6 and 1-0 in conference play.

Wooster returns home Sunday to host DePauw University in another NCAC matchup.
