Scots Continue NCAC Slate at No. 22 Denison

Abby Williams, Wooster Tennis GRANVILLE, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's tennis team played its sixth straight match against teams currently ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's regional rankings on Friday afternoon, and the Fighting Scots fell 9-0 at Denison University, which is ranked 22nd nationally and fourth within the Central Region by the organization.

Wooster (9-6, 1-3 North Coast Athletic Conference), which is among the Central Region's ranked teams at No. 12, took two sets off the NCAC's highest-ranked team. Junior Kim Nguyen had a highly-competitive match against Peyton Oda at fourth singles. Nguyen extended the match after falling 6-4 in the first set by taking the second-set tiebreaker 8-6 for the 7-6 set win. Nguyen put up a strong fight before dropping the super tiebreaker 10-7.

Sophomore Janaki Jagannathan found success early against Sarah Robertson, the region's 17th-ranked singles player. Jagannathan did not drop a game en route to taking the first set, but Robertson rebounded to win the match 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5).

First-year Abby Williams shook hands with Caroline Lopez at No. 5 at 6-4, 6-0, junior Abby Aitken was bested by Kendall Schrader 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6, sophomore Charitha Patlolla fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, and junior Otilia Oita dropped a 6-1, 6-0 match to regionally-ranked Sydney Cianciola at No. 1.

Doubles came down to the wire in the second and third flights. Nguyen and Williams put forth a strong effort in an 8-6 setback to Monique Brual and Caroline Lopez at No. 2, while that was the scoreline for Patlolla and Aitken's match at No. 3. Oita and Jagannathan took two points off Robertson and Cianciola, who are regionally ranked in doubles action.

Denison improved to 13-4, 4-0 NCAC with the win.

Wooster returns to action at Ohio Wesleyan University (9-5, 0-3 NCAC) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 15.
