Women’s Tennis Blanks Ohio Wesleyan, 9-0

Abby Aitken DELAWARE - The College of Wooster women's tennis team handed Ohio Wesleyan a 9-0 defeat on Saturday afternoon to improve to 10-6 overall and 2-3 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The win snaps a two-match losing skid for the Fighting Scots who are looking to close out the regular season tomorrow when they travel to Wittenberg for a key matchup against the Tigers.

Wooster took a 3-0 lead after doubles play as Abby Aitken and Charitha Patlolla defeated Kaitlyn Quinn and Emma Zajac 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.  Katie Materick and Otilia Oita topped Shanzay Ali and Katie Lee, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. The first point of the match was awarded to Abby Williams and Margaret Steward at third doubles after they defeated Riley Brokaw and Chloe Sullivan, 8-3.

In singles play, Oita and Patlolla made short work of Lee and Quinn in the first and second singles flights, respectively. Both Scots earned 6-1, 6-0 victories.

At No. 3 singles, Williams defeated Zajac 6-1, 6-1 while Materick followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win out of the fourth flight.

Aitken took care of Ryleigh Tillman 6-1, 6-0 and Steward closed out the match with a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (3) super tiebreaker win out of the sixth flight.
