Women's Tennis Wraps Regular Season with 5-4 Victory Over Tigers

Charitha Patlolla DAYTON – The College of Wooster women's tennis team closed out its regular season on Sunday with a 5-4 victory over Wittenberg University in North Coast Athletic Conference play. 

The Fighting Scots improve to 11-6 overall, including 3-3 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg slips to 9-9 and 3-3 in the league. It was an important win for the Scots, as they will claim the fourth seed in the upcoming NCAC Tournament over Wittenberg.

Charitha Patlolla went 2-0 on the day for Wooster, teaming with Abby Aitken at No. 3 doubles for an 8-1 win before taking a 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. 

The host Tigers won the other two doubles matches, with Wooster's No. 2 tandem of Katie Materick and Abby Williams dropping a close 8-6 decision and Janaki Jagannathan and Otilia Oita falling 8-1 at No. 1.  

The Fighting Scots then won four of six singles matches to secure the match victory. In addition to Patlolla's win, Williams posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4, while Materick won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 and Jagannathan earned a 7-6(2), 6-2 win at No. 2.

Oita lost a 7-6(5), 7-5 decision at No. 1, while Aitken retired at No. 6. 

Wooster returns to the court next Friday-Sunday at the NCAC Tournament, hosted by Denison University in Granville. Following the conclusion of all regular season matches, pairings, site announcements and match times will be posted on the NCAC website.
