Scots Make First Semifinals Appearance Since 1999

GRANVILLE -- The College of Wooster women's tennis team bowed out of the semifinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday, falling to top seed and 32nd-ranked Kenyon College 6-0.

In doubles play, Janaki Jagannathan and Otilia Oita paired in the No. 1 flight against Eleni Lazaridou and Allaire Berl. The Kenyon duo, ranked fifth regionally, came out on top 8-1.

At No. 2 doubles, Katie Materick and Abby Williams fell 8-2, while Charitha Patlolla and Kim Nguyen took an 8-4 loss at No. 3.

In singles play, Jagannathan took a 6-0, 6-1 loss in the No. 1 flight to Lazaridou, who is ranked third in the region. Berl, ranked 12th regionally, defeated Oita 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 flight. 

Nguyen couldn't pull together another winner and took a 6-0, 6-0 loss in the No. 4 flight. Finally, Patlolla's match was left unfinished with her trailing 6-2, 4-1 in the No. 3 flight.

This was the first semifinals appearance for the Scots since 1999 and third overall appearance.

Looking back at the previous regular season matchup, the Scots also lost 5-0 to Kenyon on April 4. 

The loss breaks a late three-game winning streak for Wooster, as they conclude the year at 12-7.

Kenyon advances to the championship match on Sunday and will play the winner of the Denison University and Wittenberg University match.
