Scots Hold On For First NCAC Win

The College of Wooster women's tennis team collected its first North Coast Athletic Conference win on Saturday, defeating Ohio Wesleyan University, 5-4.

Wooster got off to a great start, taking two of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan and the No. 2 team of Abby Aitken and Abby Williams each won 8-1.

The win for Oita and Jagannathan puts the pair alone atop the Wooster record for most wins at the No. 1 doubles set.

Wooster's No. 3 team of Sarah Mashaal and Margaret Steward fell 8-4.

In singles play, Jagannathan gave Wooster its first singles point with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 2 flight. Her two wins gives her 76 career wins, becoming the 10th player in program history to reach that milestone and the fourth to do it since 2017.

Aitken gave Wooster its next point in the No. 4 flight, 6-0, 6-2, and Oita wrapped up the match for Wooster at No. 1, 6-3, 6-1.

Williams, unfortunately, had to retire in the third flight, and Steward fell in straight sets at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1. Finally, Naledi Jani fell in the No. 6 flight, 7-6 (3), 6-1.

With the win, Wooster moves to 4-12 overall and 2-3 in the NCAC. Ohio Wesleyan drops to 6-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
