Oita Collects 30th Singles Win Versus Wittenberg

The College of Wooster women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to visiting Wittenberg University on Sunday afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference play. 

Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan both won their singles matches for the Fighting Scots after dropping their No. 1 doubles match, 8-4.

Oita rallied for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, recording the 30th singles win of her career. That moves the senior into solo possession of fifth on the program leaderboard for career No. 1 singles victories.

Jagannathan wrapped up the match by posting a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles. 

At No. 3 doubles for Wooster, Abby Williams and Sarah Mashaal secured an 8-6 win, while in the other doubles contest at No. 2, Abby Aitken and Margaret Steward lost an 8-4 decision.

In singles, Aitken lost a 6-3, 6-3 match at No. 3, while Steward suffered a 6-2, 6-0 loss at No. 4. At No. 5 and 6 respectively, Naledi Jani and Carter Pepa, were both dealt a 6-0, 6-0 setback. 

Wittenberg improves to 12-4 overall, including 3-2 in the NCAC with the win, while Wooster slips to 4-13 and 1-4 in the league. 

The Fighting Scots close out the regular season on Wednesday, hosting Oberlin College at 4:30 p.m.
