Fitzcharles Climbs into Top-10 for Career Digs at Wooster

Sydney Fitzcharles, Wooster volleyball SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Eighth-ranked Wittenberg University downed The College of Wooster volleyball team 25-15, 25-16, 25-9 on Saturday afternoon at Pam Evans Smith Arena.

Wooster (3-9, 0-1 North Coast Athletic Conference), which opened league play against the program it went up against in the 2021 NCAC Tournament championship match, was led by senior Hayley Nash's eight kills and eight digs. Senior Sydney Fitzcharles and junior Trinity Harmon tallied six digs apiece, while junior Caroline Dillard and sophomore Tamara Turner were each credited with a solo block.

Katie Hiestand stood out for Wittenberg (11-3, 1-0 NCAC) with 18 kills, a .412 attack percentage, and 10 digs. Tyler Linkhart backed that up with 11 kills, while overall, the Tigers hit .343.

Dillard's block had Wooster within 20-14 in the opening set. That marked the final point of a 5-1 run by the Scots.

Of note, Fitzcharles' final dig of the day moved her into a tie with W Association Hall of Famer Carrie Zuro '97 for the 10th-most digs in program history. Fitzcharles now has 1,141 for her career.

Wooster is next in action against Denison University (5-8, 0-0 NCAC) on Saturday, October 1. First serve from Timken Gymnasium is set for 1 p.m.
