Seniors Shine in Home Finale

Emily Gail The College of Wooster volleyball team gave its seniors a memorable farewell in its home finale after beating Kenyon College 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21) on Wednesday.

The seniors did their part as well.

Emily Gail was on point, leading the team with 14 kills. That was one shy of the game-high, which was held by Kenyon's Macy Reimbold.

Classmate Sydney Fitzcharles recorded a game-high 26 digs, and junior Tyara Thompson had a game-high 45 assists.

Fellow senior Hayley Nash added 13 kills, and Wooster was at its best with Nash serving, who ended the game with eight service aces.

It was also Wooster's first North Coast Athletic Conference win of the year as they move to 4-13 overall and 1-5 in the NCAC. Kenyon drops to 3-17 and 1-4 in conference play.

In the first set, Wooster pulled away early with Nash serving, taking five straight points to go ahead 12-6. They led 24-18 before Kenyon scored three late before putting the Owls away.

Kenyon reversed its fortunes in the second set, but again Wooster attempted a comeback thanks to Nash serving. Wooster scored another five straight to pull within three at 23-20, but Kenyon held the Scots off.

Wooster was strong toward the end of the third set as both teams were knotted at 21. They took advantage of three errors before Gail posted the set-winning kill.

Then in the fourth set, Wooster trailed 6-2 before scoring five straight, including three consecutive kills from Nash. The teams were then tied at seven and eight, but Wooster would then pull ahead at 15-9.

Kenyon rallied to lead 19-18, but Wooster took seven of the last nine points, as a kill from Amelia Mitchell ended the match.

Next, Wooster will play in the Emory Class Tournament this weekend. They open against Averett University on Friday.
