Scots Conclude Regular Season on the Road

Sydney Fitzcharles, Wooster volleyball CLEVELAND, Ohio - The College of Wooster volleyball team fell in straight sets to Case Western Reserve University in the regular season finale. The Fighting Scots dropped set scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-14.

Senior Emily Gail tallied a team-high six kills for the Scots (7-15) while junior Caroline Dillard and senior Hayley Nash had five kills apiece. Junior Tyara Thompson recorded 23 assists and also tied senior Sydney Fitzcharles for the team lead in digs with nine each.

Rea Marfatia led the way for the Spartans (21-4) in all facets of the game, recording a double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs. She also proved to be a force at the service line as she added four aces.

CWRU set the tone of the match early, racing out to a 6-1 lead and forcing a quick Wooster timeout. The Scots battled and got within four points at 13-9; however, the Spartans used a timely 5-0 run to pull away and take a one-set lead.

The final two sets were tight to start as both teams traded points to an eventual 5-5 tie in the second set while the Scots overcame an early Spartan run in the third set, climbing within two points at 9-7. Once again, though, CWRU went on long runs in each set to secure the victory.

Wooster returns to the court on Friday, November 4 in the first round of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The Scots will take on Kenyon College (4-20) at 4 p.m. on the campus of host and top-seed Wittenberg University. The winner of that first-round match immediately moves on to the second round later that evening at 7:30 p.m. against Ohio Wesleyan University (11-13). In the regular season, the Scots beat the Owls in four sets.
