Senior Salute - Emily Gail

Emily Gail Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Emily Gail, a communication studies major from Euclid, Ohio. Gail is a member of the volleyball team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose Wooster because it gave me the opportunity to get a good education while continuing playing volleyball.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot means working hard in the classroom and on the court.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: One of my favorite memories is upsetting Denison University in their home gym in the semifinals of the 2021 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The volleyball team's trips to Arizona and Atlanta are among my favorite memories too.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete is the bond you create with not only your team but athletes on all the teams.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I work in the equipment room and in game operations. I am also part of the Women's Athletic and Recreation Association

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: I do not think I can name a singular person as so many Wooster staff and faculty members have made a great impact on me and my experience here.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Many people have impacted my Wooster experience in a positive way. Some of those people are the volleyball coaching staff, my advisorZhenyu Tian, and other Communications Department faculty like Denise Bostdorff and Michelle Johnson

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am looking at the public's reactions and opinions that they post on social media in response to cases of gender discrimination in sports.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I had the opportunity to go to Arizona, Atlanta, and Washington D.C. with my team. Our Arizona trip took place over spring break in 2022, and we went to the Grand Canyon and Sedona, which were super cool. What I liked about these trips was all the places were hometowns of teammates, and it was cool to see where they are from.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Have fun because it goes fast.
