Scots Top St. Vincent, Finish Oberlin Invite 3-0

Trinity Harmon OBERLIN - The College of Wooster volleyball team knocked off St. Vincent College (Pa.) to conclude the Oberlin Invitational with a perfect 3-0 record. The Scots (6-4) beat the Bearcats (3-5) by scores of 25-22, 25-12, 14-25, 25-14.

After dropping the first point of the match, Wooster got out to a fast 6-1 lead. St. Vincent immediately went on a 5-0 run to even things up. The rest of the set was tightly contested until the Scots closed out the set on a 5-0 run of their own.

The second set began much the same way until first-year Emma Fleck got the offense going, finding her attackers all around the court in order to close out the set on a 17-5 run. Wooster hit a whopping .640 in the frame.

St. Vincent flipped the script, however, and never gave the Scots a chance to get settled. A 7-0 run with a couple of service aces halfway through the third set put the Bearcats comfortably ahead as they sent the match to a fourth set.

Wooster put the pressure on the Bearcats midway through the final frame, especially from the service line. Fleck highlighted a 9-1 run with a pair of service aces and recorded four assists in that span.

The Scots' lead at that point was too great for St. Vincent to overcome and a block from junior Amelia Mitchell and first-year Jordan Laraway on match point sealed the victory.

Mitchell recorded her third double-digit effort of the season, leading the Scots' offense with 11 kills and a .563 hitting percentage. Fleck was tough from the service line with four aces and dished out 28 assists while senior Trinity Harmon tallied 19 digs.

Kaelyn Staples recorded a match-high 14 kills to lead St. Vincent while Madie Eagler had a double-double of 32 assists and 12 digs. Stacie Ramos also notched 13 digs.

The Scots hit the road on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup with Bluffton University.
