Scots Unable to Complete Comeback in Gambier

Tamara Turner, Wooster Volleyball GAMBIER, Ohio – Junior Amelia Mitchell logged another strong game at the net with three more solo blocks, and The College of Wooster volleyball team tallied 10 blocks overall in Saturday's 25-15, 23-25, 28-26, 22-25, 15-9 loss at Kenyon College.

Junior Tamara Turner extended the match to a fifth set with kill four in the fourth frame. Prior to that, Mitchell and Turner doubled up Aura Barinas at the net to make it set point Wooster (7-13, 0-6 North Coast Athletic Conference). Maggie Wolf's service error brought Wooster within two points of closing out the fourth set. Earlier, a Turner kill followed by an ace from senior Caroline Dillard gave Wooster a cushion, as those points grew a 20-19 lead to 22-19.

Wooster hit .257 as a team in set two, with 13 kills in the frame. Dillard, first-year Jordan Laraway and Turner were responsible for 11 of them. However, it was ultimately the service line, where first-year Emma Fleck fired off two aces during a 4-0 run that helped Wooster gain separation. Fleck's second ace padded Wooster's lead to 15-12, while the advantage grew to four at 17-13 when Dillard and senior Troy Johnson batted down Lindsey Abramson's attack attempt. Dillard's kill sparked a 4-0 run that helped Wooster push the second-set lead to 21-16.

Turner's fifth double-double of the year included 19 digs and 13 kills. The 19 digs marked the fourth time the junior has logged at least that many in a match this fall. Senior Trinity Harmon's 20 digs led Wooster, while Mitchell had six total blocks.

Kenyon's (4-17, 1-4 NCAC) Barinas' 16 kills led all players. Arianna Flota and Wolf had 15 digs apiece for the Owls.

Both teams logged huge hauls at the service line with 47 total points coming on aces and errors.

Next, Wooster wraps up NCAC play against Wittenberg University (8-13, 3-2 NCAC). First serve from Timken Gymnasium is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24.
