Wooster Wraps Up Conference Play

Ellie Stroke, Wooster Volleyball WOOSTER, Ohio – Blocking was once again a bright spot for The College of Wooster volleyball team, which dropped a 25-16, 25-15, 25-12 match to Wittenberg University on Tuesday evening at Timken Gymnasium.

Senior Caroline Dillard and junior Amelia Mitchell had four blocks apiece, while as a team, the Fighting Scots (7-14, 0-7 North Coast Athletic Conference) swatted down six Tiger (9-13, 4-2 NCAC) attack attempts on the night. Other blocks were logged by seniors Troy Johnson and Ty Thompson, who had two each.

Wooster's best set one stretches came with senior Ellie Stroke and junior Lucy Kinser at the service line. Mitchell and Thompson had one of Wooster's blocks during a 4-0 run with Stroke at the line, while kills from first-year Jordan Laraway and Thompson came during the other 4-0 run.

Senior Trinity Harmon's six digs in set two led the way for Wooster. However, Wittenberg had 12 kills in the frame, with Kaili Worcester and Tyler Linkhart combining for nine of them.

Three straight Wittenberg attack errors, one of which was caused by a Dillard and Johnson block, had Wooster up 7-5 in set three. However, a lengthy run by Wittenberg quickly turned the tide in favor of the Tigers.

Mitchell's six kills were the match-high for Wooster. Junior Tamara Turner led the defense with 11 digs. Harmon added 10 digs.

Worcester's 13 kills led all players. Mack Ricketts was the double-trouble force, finishing with 29 assists and a match-high 12 digs.

Wooster has three matches remaining on the year, starting with two on Saturday at Earlham College. Wooster plays Bluffton University (5-20) at 3 p.m. and Earlham (6-16) at 5 p.m.
