Senior Day Wraps Up Volleyball Season

The College of Wooster volleyball team celebrated its five seniors with a senior day celebration on Saturday, while concluding its season with a 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-21, 25-15) loss to Case Western Reserve University.

Seniors Trinity HarmonCaroline DillardTroy JohnsonTy Thompson and Ellie Stroke were honored before the game, and the five tried to prevent Case Western Reserve its 20th win of th season.

The turning point in the match came in the third set when Wooster won a pair of long points to pull ahead 20-18. The Scots then came out of a timeout to make it 21-18 after a service ace from Dillard.

However, Case would rattle off six straight points to take a 2-1 match lead. Emily Goodpaster made two service aces in the run, and Rea Marfatia collected a pair of kills.

Case used that momentum to play its best set in the fourth, taking an early 6-1 lead and later expanding it to 14-7 before winning 25-15.

Wooster proved it could fight back from a deficit after they opened the match down 5-0 and clawed back to tie it at 16-16 in the first set. Wooster capitalized on five aces in the first set, including two each from Tamara Turner and Amelia Mitchell.

A Johnson kill gave Wooster an 18-17 lead late, but Case showed its strength toward the end of the set as five straight points shifted the set in favor of the Spartans.

In set two, Wooster trailed just twice and mostly controlled throughout in the 25-22 win. Turner had five kills in the set, and Thompson recorded seven assists.

Overall, Turner led the team with 13 kills as Dillard followed closely with 12. Thompson had 25 assists. Harmon recorded 18 digs, and Stroke added 13.

Case was led by 22 kills and 22 digs from Marfatia.

Wooster concludes the year at 8-16, while Case moves to 20-7 as they head to their conference tournament.
