The College of Wooster cross country teams finished in fourth-place in both the men's 8K competition and the women's 6K field, as they hosted the Fighting Scots Invitational, a mini preview of next month's North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, which will also take place at L.C. Boles Golf Course in Wooster, Ohio.

Five NCAC schools participated in all Saturday, as did nearby NCAA Div. II Ashland University.

Kenyon College won the women's meet with a score of 45, edging Denison University (53), while Wooster was the next conference school (105), behind third-place Ashland (61).

Individually, the Scots' Erin Plews-Ogan ran with the lead pack and wound up in third-place as the senior standout covered the challenging, hilly course in 23:49.01. There were 85 total competitors.

Next in line for Wooster was Lauren Buyan in 16th (24:24.26), Colleen O'Neil in 25th (25:12.44), and Chelsea Denlinger in 29th (25:25.06), while Monica Ramstad, Erin Andrews-Sharer, and Allison Chin completed the group of seven team scorers via 36th- (25:58.54), 37th- (26:01.93), and 41st-place (26:18.04) efforts.

The Scot men were also third-best among the conference competitors, while Ashland took the top-five individual places en route to a dominant team win of 15 points. Ohio Wesleyan University was runner-up (65), followed by Denison (82), and Wooster (95).

Luke Hutchings-Goetz continued his run as the Scots' No. 1, and it was Morgan Clark who added some excitement by putting together one of his best performances for a solid showing at No. 2. Hutchings-Goetz was 12th overall out of 96 with a time of 27:32.69, while Clark was just 10 seconds back in 14th-place (27:42.21).

Also among the top-20 was Wooster's Joe David in 19th (27:58.84), and Jay Marshall, Sam Swartz, Karl Stemen, and Gabe Abud ran closely together with respective finishes of 28th (28:41.64), 29th (28:48.03), 35th (29:05.81), and 36th (29:17.38) to round out the team scoring.

The Scots are off from competition until Saturday, Sept. 29, when they'll be in Cedarville, Ohio, for the annual All-Ohio Championships.
