Hoover, Sophomores Lead Way at JennaStrong

Elise Greenwald, Wooster Cross Country WILMINGTON, Ohio – The College of Wooster cross country team tuned up for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Wilmington College's JennaStrong Invitational, where the Fighting Scots' men placed seventh and the women eighth on Friday afternoon.

Senior Isabelle Hoover continued to dominate, this time with the third-place effort of 19:07.6 in the women's 5K, which was the top clip among NCAA Div. III competitors in the field. Hoover logged her fourth top-five finish of the season, and she has not finished lower than fourth-place.

Sophomore Jessie Breth, who has two top finishes within the team this fall, was Wooster's number two at the conference tune-up at 20:00.2, which ranked 65th in the field. Classmate Igna Mendez posted a near-identical time of 22:00.8, coming in right behind Breth, while sophomores Isabelle Dwyer (22:24.8, 78th-place) and Julianna Fiori (22:38.3, 83rd-place) were not that far back.

Sophomores Eva Bauman (22:45.6, 89th-place) and Elise Greenwald (24:34.4, 124th-place) rounded out Wooster's top-seven women's finishers.

The sophomore-driven theme within Wooster's top seven carried over to the men's race, starting with Will Callender, who was the 11th overall finisher at 25:39.9. Classmates Drew Robertson and Ben Nichols posted similar times of 26:52.5 and 26:56.4, respectively, which were 35th and 38th in the field. Eric Johnson, who was Wooster's fifth finisher, rounded out the sophomores in the top-seven at 28:58.4, the 118th-place time.

Junior Duncan Hardy checked in at 28:08.6, which was 88th in the field. First-years Joe Ahmann (29:19.9, 130th-place) and Gustav Bourdon (29:23.0, 131st-place) were in Wooster's top-seven.

Thomas More University led 16 scoring women's teams. Mount Vernon Nazarene University's Morgan Forney went 18:59.9 to win the women's race. Host Wilmington, which had the top three men's finishers, led 22 scoring programs.

Next, Wooster competes in the NCAC Championships, which take place on campus at L.C. Boles Memorial Golf Course on Saturday, October 29. The meet starts at 11 a.m.
