Cross Country Takes Seventh, Eighth at NCAC Preview

XC Team GRANVILLE - The College of Wooster cross country teams competed in their first scored championship-length meet of the season at the North Coast Athletic Conference Preview, hosted by Denison University at Infirmary Mound Park. The women's team secured a seventh place finish while the men placed eighth as a team. 

Wooster's top harriers on each team both finished in fifth place. Junior Dylan Kretchmar had her first career top-5 showing in a 6k meet when she crossed the finish line in a time of 26:12.30. Meanwhile on the men's side, junior Drew Robertson tied his top 8k finish from a season ago, doing it in a time of 28:12.30. 

Junior Will Callender narrowly missed a top-10 finish by 1.5 seconds, placing 11th in 28:32.30. Fellow juniors Ben Nichols and Eric Johnson pushed each other to 56th and 59th place, respectively, in times of 30:07.40 and 30:11.20.

Sophomore Joe Ahmann rounded out the scoring effort with an 86th-place finish in a time of 31:07.60. Sophomore Zane DeMercurio (32:06.40, 117th) and first-year Nick Schade (32:40.71, 127th) were also part of the Scots' top seven. 

For the women, junior Jessie Breth was Wooster's second finisher, taking 45th in 28:37.60. In the first championship-length of her career, first-year Zanna Anderson placed 55th in a time of 29:24.90.

Junior Isabelle Dwyer went 30:07.20 to finish 62nd while first-year Reeve Helvoigt posted a time of 30:31.20 to place 70th in her first career 6k event. First-years Elise Wheeler (31:03.90, 78th) and Naomi Kaczor (31:14.20, 80th) were not far behind their fellow first-year teammate to round out Wooster's top seven.

Wittenberg's Conor Kolka won the men's event in 27:37.50. Grace Thomas from DePauw went 25:.09.60 to win the women's race. 

Wooster will compete next in the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Challenge on Sept. 15, at the Elvin R King Cross Country Course in Cedarville.
