Wooster Sweeps Team Titles at Dan Mullen Memorial Invitational

Joe Ahmann, Wooster Cross Country NEW CONCORD, Ohio - The College of Wooster cross country team brought home both team titles at the Dan Mullen Memorial Invitational, hosted by Muskingum University at Moorehead Farm.

The men's team won with a total of 24 points, besting host Muskingum by just nine points. Meanwhile, the women tallied 28 points for the team title, holding off the hosts as well. No scoring Wooster harrier finished outside of the top-20 on either side.

Wooster's entire scoring contingent for the men finished in the top-10 of the meet, led by junior Will Callender who was the top collegiate athlete and the overall runner-up in a time of 27:06.5. Junior Eric Johnson crossed the finish line fourth in 29:43.7, followed by sophomore Joe Ahmann in sixth (30:23.4), sophomore Zane DeMercurio in eighth (31:02.4) and first-year Nick Schade in ninth (31:30.5).

On the women's side, senior Athena Tharenos claimed the first individual cross country title of her career, breaking the tape in 23:35.9. A pair of juniors in Dylan Kretchmar and Jessie Breth finish third and fifth, respectively, with times of 25:00.6 and 25:41.3. First-year Zanna Anderson and junior Isabelle Dwyer rounded out the scoring finishes, crossing the finish line in 10th (27:28.4) and 11th (27:32.7), respectively.

Two first-years - Reeve Helvoigt and Elise Wheeler - cracked the top seven for the Scots. Helvoigt placed 16th in 28:35.0 while Wheeler finished 20th in 29:47.7. Sophomore Charlie Cuttino and senior Connor Krucek were top-seven finishers on the men's side as Cuttino was 14th in 33:42.9 and Krucek went 34:28.0 to place 17th.

Wooster's last non-dual meet win came at this same meet back in 2021, while the women last won a non-dual meet at the 2021 JennaStrong Fall Classic.

The JennaStrong Fall Classic is the next meet Wooster will compete in, with that taking place on Friday, October 13 at Wilmington College.
